Mac Billboards Showing Up
I’ve traveled the same route to work five days a week for the last two years. I see the same sites and experience the same traffic every single day. For the last two years, nothing has changed. On Tuesday, all of that changed.
Billboards are a heck of an invention. They’re big, they’re noticeable, and they sometimes have entertaining ads on them. I’ve known about and seen billboards all my life, but with the advent of the internet, cellphones, and Wi-Fi, billboards have become increasingly irrelevant. In fact, I can’t remember the last time I actually paid any attention to a billboard on the side of the road. Imagine my surprise when I suddenly noticed a billboard out of the blue this passed Tuesday.
PC consultants have advertised their wares for years. “Data Doctor” type operations have been in business since the Windows explosion of the mid-90s. “Call us, we’ll fix your computer!”, “Don’t let the other guy get you set up. We’ll do it for half the price.”, and on and on. It made sense. Microsoft had a hit OS on its hands, PCs were becoming a necessity, and the internet was spreading like wildfire. But in all my years, I have never seen Mac consultants. Granted, I’ve never been in need of one and until earlier this month I hated Macs, but I would have still noticed them.
On Tuesday, I saw my first Apple consultant advertisement… on a billboard no less. Right there, on my route to work.
This told me two things: first, Apple has done one bang up job of penetrating the marketplace, to the point that companies advertising Apple products in the wild could actually get customers and second, that there is a large enough population of Mac users that someone is bound to have trouble at some point and seek assistance other than Apple’s.
This is anecdotal, of course, but Apple’s market share growth is real. The interest in the company, the brand, and their products is at an all-time high and keeps climbing higher. I don’t believe it’s over. Apple will steadily rise in the mindshare of the global population until it is a force to be reckoned with. The billboard is only the beginning.

Hey, is it possible for you to take a picture of the billboard and post it. I am curious what it looks like.
I’ll try to grab a picture of if this weekend and put it up on Monday. While I’m out, I’m going to keep my eyes peeled for others. I wonder how many more I can spot in my city.
