Quicklook and You

OSX comes with many different ways to preview items in your Finder folders but one of the most powerful ways to do it is to use Quicklook.

Quicklook, accessed by pressing spacebar in Finder when an item is selected, will give you a “quick look” of that item, giving you a chance to see inside of text documents, pictures, and more.

Quicklook 2

Quicklook 3

Even though it’s one of those things that can be easily overlooked in the grand scheme of the OS, Quicklook is so powerful that it can save you time and sanity when you need to find the items you’re looking for without necessitating the need to open the corresponding programs. For writers, it’s especially a boon, as you can scroll through entire documents without needing to open them in Pages, NeoOffice, Open Office, or MS Word.

Between Quicklook and Preview, OSX easily gives you quick access to all of the important items on your machine. Just another way Apple was thinking of keeping your productive.

  1. Thought you’d like it! You can also get additional plugins for it at http://www.qlplugins.com/ (there are other sites as well). My favorites are those to look into zip files and the EPS and AI viewer plugins.

  2. I’m going to have to check those out. You were completely right about Quicklook. Now I can’t stop using it. It’s the handiest little thing.
